Alcune indiscrezioni dell’ultim’ora confermano che Microsoft starebbe preparando qualche sorpresa per Windows Mobile e un presunto nuovo device.

AGGIORNAMENTO | Un’altra fonte attendibile ha preso la palla al balzo e ha aggiunto altri dettagli molto interessanti alle indiscrezioni trapelate, facendo maggiore luce su cosa stia escogitando Microsoft e confermando in qualche modo ciò che stiamo aspettando.

L’interfaccia della presunta nuova versione di Windows Mobile potrebbe far riferimento alla fantomatica CShell e quindi a Windows 10 e non Windows 10 Mobile, in accordo con i rumor precedenti. Microsoft starebbe già testando internamente queste build, proprio su alcuni smartphone. Aspetto simile al sistema operativo mobile, ma con alcune differenze nell’interfaccia.

I’ve seen CSHELL builds running on Windows phones, looking a lot like Windows 10 Mobile, but with some noticeable differences, including changes to the notification center, and some tweaks to the Start screen and apps list. The builds I’ve seen were both at an extremely early stage of development, and while they were both usable, it was clear that they were far from feature-complete, and still in need of a lot more work.

Se questa ipotesi dovesse essere poi messa in pratica, non promette nulla di buono per gli attuali device che potrebbero, a questo punto, rimanere su Feature 2 e sancire di fatto la fine dello sviluppo dell’attuale versione di Windows Mobile in favore della nuova. Microsoft continuerebbe comunque a supportare Windows 10 Mobile e potrebbero arrivare anche delle novità.

Two separate sources have told me that feature2 is effectively the ‘end of the road’ for Windows 10 Mobile, and that the decision to split its development away from the main Redstone 3 Development Branch reflects that reality. One of those sources added that feature2 will eventually roll out as an update for all supported Windows 10 Mobile handsets, and that it will include new features.

Nuovo device, nuova UI?

Stando alle informazioni appena trapelate, Microsoft starebbe lavorando allo sviluppo di un branch dedicato di Windows 10 Mobile, separato dall’attuale Feature 2, creato appositamente per un nuovo device. Si parla addirittura di una nuova UI e di modifiche importanti che potrebbero riguardare il (mancato) funzionamento di alcune vecchie app.

Two independent sources inside of Microsoft have told me that there is a new hardware device being tested internally and that there is also a separate branch of Windows Mobile for this device.

I have been hearing about the software update for some time and the added hardware component makes sense as the company is pursuing “new experiences” with this device. Additionally, the UI is expected to be different than what we know today as Windows Mobile but the exact changes are still evolving as we are in the early days of development of this experience.

There may also be another ‘cut’ in the support for older applications with the new mobile experience. I have heard, but am not able to fully confirm at this time, that Silverlight applications may not longer work with the updated OS.

Al momento non è chiaro se si tratti proprio di Andromeda, anche se quest’ultimo appare ancora molto distante e poco definito. Potrebbe trattarsi invece di un secondo progetto legato ad HP, forse più vicino, riconducibile ad alcune dichiarazioni rilasciate proprio da Dona Sarkar.

La Sarkar ha specificato proprio la collaborazione con il partner come uno dei motivi dell’attuale pausa in termini di novità – sarebbe quindi lecito attendere un nuovo top di gamma da parte di quest’ultimo. Proprio in occasione del MWC 2017 avevamo intravisto i prodromi di una seconda versione di Elite x3. Nel frattempo, pochi giorni fa un altro membro del team di sviluppo si è lasciato sfuggire informazioni analoghe, circa novità in arrivo per Windows 10 Mobile orientate al mondo aziendale.

È scontato che tutti vorrebbero finalmente vedere il famoso “dispositivo mobile definitivo” di Microsoft, ma non è detto che non ci sia dell’altro prima, che l’attuale settore mobile non abbia esalato ancora l’ultimo respiro. Cosa bolle veramente in pentola? Diteci la vostra nei commenti.
